NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 06/14/11 -- Lithium demand has skyrocketed this year as a recovering global economy has driven growth for lithium-ion battery technology in mobile phones, personal digital assistants, laptops and electric vehicles. According to the Global X Lithium ETF's profile "Lithium is used almost exclusively for industrial purposes, and its price will, thus, fluctuate with industrial activity." The Bedford Report examines the outlook for companies in the Industrial Metals and Minerals Industry and provides investment research on Canada Lithium Corporation (TSX: CLQ) (PINKSHEETS: CLQMF) and Lithium Corporation (OTCBB: LTUM). Earlier this year Economist Daniela Desormeaux gave a presentation at the Technology and Rare Earth Metals Conference arguing that lithium represents a "growth industry" and that "lithium demand will show interesting growth rates because it has many applications in addition to batteries."

Desormeaux believes there is room for more lithium producers to enter the market, arguing that the element is abundant -- as evidenced by a total of 80 exploration projects that have been announced globally in the last few years.

Most of the production needed to satisfy the market will come from the South American Lithium Belt, a 500-mile-by-200-mile strip centered on the junction of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile, which contains more than 75 percent of the world's lithium reserves.

Certain areas of North America have also shown rich lithium deposits. Canada Lithium Corp. holds a 100% interest in the Québec Lithium Project near Val d'Or, which the company considers "the geographical heart of the Quebec mining industry."

Lithium Corp is an exploration company based in Nevada devoted to the exploration for new lithium resources within the state of Nevada. Last week the company announced that it commenced drilling at its Salt Wells Lithium property.
