EV sales have been lagging in NA for a number of reasons; lack of charging facilities, cost, poor range, cost of repairs, lead time for delivery etc.

Hybrids are doing much better and people see them as a better option to full EV's.

However NA will not embrace them until all the problems are addressed. The rest of the world is not as car crazy as NA and would probably move to them if the price is right and they improve their performance/ reliability. IMO gas is here for some time but will eventually be a relic of the past.
