I believe Trump said he would protect the assets of citgo for the Venezuelan People. That statement was followed by this outcome.

"Citgo is currently under control of Guaidó, after the United States recognized him as interim president of Venezuela. There, a designated board of directors exercises in mid-February"

Guaido needs Citgo to help in the recovery of Venezuela if he becomes President. It would help him a lot if he could show  him as a leader in halting the auction of Citgo.

I hope Venezuela keeps Citgo. After all, Madero has no control over Citgo now anyway.
