Adding Diamonds to the "Ring" of Fire

"Frank Smeenk's moribund diamond explorer, Debut Diamonds Inc. (DDI), dropped one-half cent to one cents on 1,000 shares. Debut's top play -- at least it should be -- is MacFadyen, just a few kilometres north of the Victor mine in the Attawapiskat region of Northern Ontario. Little has happened at MacFadyen because the next step, mini-bulk sampling, will cost several million dollars and Debut has been unable to raise so much as an eyebrow since it went public in late 2011. Worse, an exploration deal with the local Indians has expired. The company held talks with Chief Theresa Spence of Attawapiskat, her council and community elders in early 2012 but all that Mr. Smeenk can say is that consultation is "currently ongoing." Assuming the talks ever come to a conclusion, Debut says "a core drilling program will be considered" to evaluate the size and diamond content of the MacFadyen pipes. Earlier small tests yielded variable results, but the numbers suggest that the Good Friday pipe and at least one or two of the other MacFadyen bodies warrant further testing, based on diamond recoveries roughly comparable with Victor, which averages 0.23 carat per tonne."
