Financial market regulator PSzÁF has started an investigation of a purchase of shares in Hungarian oil and gas company MOL by Russian peer Surgutneftegas to determine if the transaction was in line with market regulations, PSzÁF spokesman István Binder told MTI.
Austrian oil and gas company OMV on Monday said it sold its 21.2% stake in MOL to Surgutneftegas for a premium of nearly 100% over the share price at the time. MOL Chairman-CEO Zsolt Hernádi said later the price was exactly the same as that paid by OMV for the shares.
Binder said the investigation was started at MOL's request. He declined to reveal any further details, but said PSzÁF would publish a resolution when it closed the investigation. (MTI – Econews)
