Based on reported data through September 2016, the estimated value of titanium mineral concentrates consumed in the United States in 2016 was $560 million. About 90% of titanium mineral concentrates were consumed by domestic titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigment producers

Price, dollars per metric ton (2016):

Rutile, bulk, minimum 95% TiO2, f.o.b. Australia: $725

Slag, 80%–95% TiO2: 661–697

Net USA import reliance as a percentage of estimated consumption:91%

The United States has become highly dependent on imports of the minerals used to make titanium and TiO2, which primarily comes from Australia and Canada
