Message: Road funding available?

This argument was settled long ago, but is revived repeatedly.

Once again, they look at a road as the required infrastructure for the Ring of Fire. There are several reasons why this is the wrong solution.

Some of the First Nations people in the area simply do not want road access to their land.

A road would be inadequate to carry the traffic volume needed for chromite mines.

Cost of road transport per ton is several times the cost of rail transport per ton.

Environmental disturbance resulting fron building a road or roads into the area and the traffic resulting would be far greater than that resulting from building & operating a rail line. Considering pollution from fuel use, rail is better, and road kill, the accidental carnage of wildlife meeting many fast moving vehicles, as well as simple disturbance by noise and vehicles crossing migration & foraging routes, is going to be far more than with the fewer trains carrying the same freight.

There are several possible routes for roads into the ROF, and debate about which might be 'best' are likely to continue for some time. Rail only has a single 'best' route, cutting talking time on that down a fair bit.

KWG is currently in negotiations for finance for a railway. Road 'solutions' are presently a mix of hot air & pie-in-the-sky.

Finally, this particular news release cites a figure of "Three jobs for every million dollars"  - well, y'know. give me a million dollars & I will personally hire a gardener, a housemaid, a personal assistant AND a Financial Advisor. That is four jobs, plus spinoffs.
