IMHO, Musk is going to solve a problem, which he has originally created. After all, Tesla has decided to use NMC cells and the reason behind was high energy density to achieve the range goal.

Nowadays Cobalt is expensive, so this chemistry looks like a good choice. However, Musk is just a follower here, because BMW and VW are already using CATL battery cells :-). And it comes back to the point, that TSLA is not going to invest into any Lithium mine, because battery cells production is not part of the picture. At least not at the moment.

I am just wondering, how damaging is this CATL affair to their exiting relationship with Panasonic.
