Mining Company Diversifying Efforts

A St. John's mining company is diversifying its efforts in this province.New Island Resources is a joint partner with Anaconda in the new mine at Pine Cove on the Baie Verte Peninsula that is now producing gold. New Island also has a joint venture agreement with Crew Gold from London, England. Crew is spending 5-million dollars over the next few years on a gold discovery at Glover Island in western Newfoundland. President Harold Wareham says New Island a major player with Prominex Resource Corporation on a significant base metals discovery near Buchans, and the company is also involved in an exploration program for uranium in western Labrador.
