This thread is reminding me that when I spoke to a couple of the McFauld's players at the show, they don't seem to think it's meteoric in origin. Bruce Durham of TME said they've tested the age of the rocks, and they're actually much younger than they first thought. ( Sorry, can't remember the million/billion year quoted).

Here's a completely uneducated, off-the-wall theory: what if you had a major geological event like a volcano that occurred during a time when McFauld's was underneath a shallow sea? Would that jive? It would account for the kimberlite pipes, would it not?

Anyways, feel free to tear this theroy  to pieces if it's completely nonsensical, but the first part of my post is all facts.
