Wes Hanson's Noront Resources Ltd. (NOT) slipped one cent to 49 cents on 101,000 shares. The Webequie First Nation is "frustrated" with Noront. Chief Cornelius Wabasse says the company has stopped "engaging the community" and its environmental assessment process for the Eagle's Nest project in Northern Ontario. Noront put its feasibility study on hold last week, after Cliffs Natural Resources and the Ontario government proposed a $600-million road to the Ring of Fire area.

Last summer, Noront decided a 100-kilometre, $234-million slurry pipeline from Eagle's Nest to Webequie Junction, would be better than a road, giving in to months of local harping about migratory patterns of the woodland caribou. Then, the Webequie seemed pleased, especially with the location of the pipeline. Chief Wabasse even donned a Noront ball cap to praise the company on Youtube. In spite of today's accusations, Noront does engage the Webequie. It pays the tribe $12,500 a month in consulting fees, $6 for each hole it drills and $3 for each drill metre. It also provides job fairs, summer camps, art programs, bursaries and Christmas toys, which Mr. Hanson hands out himself in a Santa suit.
