Kenora-Rainy River member Greg Rickford says there's an overlap in his new portfolios.

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says his new portfolios in cabinet offer some overlap.

"Obviously, energy, northern development and mines, Indigenous Affairs bring together three portfolios that often cross each other," he said, after his appointment Friday.

"I think there's going to be a lot of things moving forward in northwestern Ontario. As I said earlier, Kenora-Rainy River is going to take its rightful place at an important table where decisions get made and things get done," he added, during a short interview.

Premier Doug Ford held his first cabinet meeting after their swearing-in ceremony at Queen's Park. Rickford is holding three ministries in the old Wynne government, as the Tories reduced the size of cabinet.
