Message: Marten Falls First Nation Environmental Assessment on Community Access Road

Please re-read the bolded parts again, kindly posted by Ringer.

"Marten Falls First Nation has embarked on an Environmental Assessment Project with the approval of the Ontario Government. The project stems from an announcement on August 21,2017 with then Premier Wynne on the announcement of All-Season Community Access Road to Marten Falls First Nation.

Thus far, Marten Falls First Nation has established a project team with professional consultants and community members and, has recently hired a consortium of consultants led by AECOM to undertake the work to conduct an environmental assessment and preliminary design engineering studies on Phase 1 of the project.

The All-Season Community Access Road project has two Phases. Phase 1 is an All-Season Community Access Road that will connect Marten Falls First Nation to forestry access roads near Painter Lake located north of Nakina, Ontario. Phase 2 is an All-Season Supply Road that will branch off the Phase 1 All-Season Community Access Road north of the Albany River and connect to the mineral rich area known as the Ring of Fire, providing the community a road link to the economic opportunities that may develop in the future.

At this time, we have agreements to complete an environmental assessment and preliminary engineering design for Phase 1 and, preliminary baseline studies only on Phase 2. No environmental assessment or preliminary design work is being done on Phase 2 at this time. The baseline study work on Phase 2 is being done to gather a more robust regional dataset to better inform decision making should Marten Falls First Nation decide to complete Phase 2 in the future."

======================================================================================

Now, think about the following.

-With Phase one, Marten Falls is connected to the highway. Perfect for them.

-the North South route was originally to be used for the BIG HAUL of chromite. Remember? You know,..when the smelter was in operation....

The east west was designed  for the eagle's nest and chrome from (Blackbird to cover North American needs)...and then ...the North south ..down the road...for when the chromite smelter kicked in.

-but, we all know the Rail was the most economic when you factor in the 200+ years supply of chromite.

and the ROF sits mainly on Mushkegowuk territory...so a Rail would make them happy.

so, why on earth would Marten falls need to have phase two run to the ROF?why? Do you realize how far away their reserve is from the Mine?? IF the intention was for reserve members to work there...then they'd have to move to Webequie's reserve!

You don't need two toll roads.

You need Road and Rail.

The supply road in Noront's EA  which goes East West makes the most sense. The 2nd road north south makes no sense if the intention is to go right to the ROF.

Yes,Aroland and Marten Falls should be connected to a main road and they will be based on phase 1.

And in the most recent MD&A, it shows Eabametoong connected to this road network. This will give Chief Atlookan what she wants. Eabametoong is too far from the reserve for jobs at the mine.

But, there will be other economic possibilities for them down the road, rof related. So, it makes sense to have their road from their reserve  be a tangent directly from the Phase one Marten Falls. This way she gets her wish. She won't have the East West traffic having the  capability to travel to her reserve.
