Message: changes to federal legislation?

Is anyone on here well versed with Bill C69 and our federal legislation? How badly will this affect us?:

On August 28, 2019, the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) will come into force, repealing the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012).

As per the transitional provision described in section 180 of IAA, any screening process under CEAA 2012 of a project, for which the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has not posted a notice of determination on whether an environmental assessment (EA) is required before the day on which IAA comes into force, is terminated. Projects that are described in the Physical Activities Regulations (the Regulations) under IAA, would transition to the planning phase of IAA.

By way of this letter, the Agency is notifying you that the Agency will take steps to prepare for the planning phase of IAA as a notice of commencement under section 17 of CEAA 2012 would not have been issued by August 28, 2019. Within 10 days of the coming into force date, the Agency will notify you how the transitional provisions in section 180 of IAA would be applied to the Webequie Supply Road Project.

The attachment that follows provides web links to useful legislation, regulation, and guidance documents.

Should you wish to be removed from the Agency’s distribution list, please notify the Agency at the email address below.

Please feel free to contact me at (416) 476-5476 or [email protected] if you have any questions.  Please note that the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency will become the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada under IAA; however, my contact information will remain the same.
