Message: editorial comments

My advice is question editorial comments concerning the ROF.

As a recent example written by:Ian Pattison is retired as editorial page editor of The Chronicle-Journal, but still shares his thoughts on current affairs

http://www.chroniclejournal.com/opinion/columns/ring-of-fire-negotiation-model-has-failed/article_094d6ee2-ccf0-11e9-8d58-9b221cb229d5.html

Notice...this portion below in his article..:

"Can individual communities prosper outside the Matawa umbrella? Or would they stand to gain more by insisting talks continue for a tenth year, an eleventh . . .?

Ebamatoong and Neskantaga say the government’s piecemeal approach is a divide-and-conquer tactic. Ebamatoong Chief Elizabeth Atlookan told CBC last fall, “We went in as a team of nine . . . The government was able to fracture (us) . . . It caused a rift among the nations.”

She said the “betrayal happened in August 2017 when Wynne announced separate all-weather road deals with Marten Falls, Webequie and Nibinamik. And now these and other communities are well on the way to a bright new future while a Matawa minority clings to a negotiating model that was going nowhere."

This article was written Sept. 1, 2019. Why mention the negative in regards to Eabametoong???Why mention the words of Elizabeth Atlookan...from the past??? If you are going to do an editorial comment, why not phone up the NEW CHIEF at Eabametoong...Harvey Yesno. They had elections this year and Harvey Yesno won.

I posted about this back in June 2019.

he has been quoted as saying:

One of the quickest ways to improve our living standard is to build an all weather road network and other transportation routes to reduce our cost of goods and doing business.

We expect to have a partnership in infrastructure projects and to own infrastructure, including transmission lines, run of the river hydro and other projects and more

what is even stranger is PRIOR to the posting of this Sept. 1 article ..this came out Aug 27

https://www.northernontariobusiness.com/regional-news/sault-ste-marie/noront-algoma-steel-discussing-ferrochrome-plant-tenancy-fees-1661308

"The latest good news for the Ring of Fire project, Rickford said, is Indigenous communities in the Ring of Fire region, including Marten Falls, Webequie and Eabametoong (also known as Fort Hope) are interested in talking about the Ring of Fire road, with those communities deciding to undertake the required environmental assessments for the project."

And in the case of Moonias..over at Neskantaga, why did the retired editorial page editor not reach out to Moonias to get an update on his thoughts? Neskantaga learned how hard it is not to have an all season road with the water treatment facility. They ended up blaming Kingdom construction Limited (KCL)...but ..back in November of last year..

"In November, Moonias told CBC that KCL had “wasted two months last year” because they said the First Nation didn’t have adequate equipment. The community’s cement mixer didn’t work, CBC reported, and it took three weeks to deliver a cement mixer, which had to be taken apart and flown in."

So much harder then stuff has to be flown in and then.. the time to reassemble..by someone capable of this...

But, looks like the water treatment plant is back on track..

http://www.netnewsledger.com/2019/07/29/neskantaga-first-nation-work-resumes-on-water-treatment-plant/

the expected date for completion of the new facility is October 2019.
