Good Post Ringer!

3 months ago Elon Musk said this:

https://www.mining.com/elon-musk-says-tesla-might-get-into-mining/

“As we scale battery production to very high levels, we actually have to look further down the supply chain. We might get into the mining business. Maybe. A little bit, at least.

We will do whatever we have to do in order to ensure we scale at the fastest rate possible.”

If anyone making EVs realizes that battery production is the biggest obstacle to scale it would be Musk. Based on global EV battery deployment data Tesla is not just shaming US and European competitors, but also the hundreds of EV manufacturers registered in China.

In March this year, Tesla deployed more battery power than its next four biggest rivals combined. That includes no.2 BYD (Build Your Dream) backed by Warren Buffett as long ago as 2008.

today we hear that it looks like there is more action at the Gigafactory in Shanghai and it appears to be for battery production.

Recent footage of Tesla’s Gigafactory 3 complex in Shanghai suggests that the electric car maker’s construction partner is busy preparing for what appears to be the buildout of another massive facility at the south end of the general assembly building. Neither Tesla nor local reports have revealed what the upcoming facility will be, though recent tweets from CEO Elon Musk suggest that the new building could help Gigafactory 3 produce batteries and powertrains for the Model 3 and Model Y.

During a recent interaction on Twitter, Musk mentioned that Gigafactory  Shanghai will produce “cars, batteries & drive units” at the same site.

This is a far different strategy from Tesla’s current setup in the United States, which involves vehicle assembly being performed in the Fremont factory, and battery and drive unit production being done in Gigafactory Nevada.

Tesla’s setup in China will likely prove beneficial for the electric car maker, as parts manufacturing and vehicle assembly could be accomplished in one complex

beneficial to manufacture from one complex.

With this strategy of do it all from one complex... why wouldn't Musk look at a  Northern Ontario supply solution that gives him the (one stop shopping)  in a safe jurisdiction.

Oops, and not for forget that word Responsible.

I'll rewrite the above statement. One stop shopping in a safe, RESPONSIBLE  jurisdiction.

Not to forget the Tesla-Baosteel relationship and the Noront-Baosteel relationship

Musk has said the location of the Gigafactory in Europe is to be announced before the end of the year.

Musk has said details of the Electric pickup truck to be revealed in November.
