Event Commemorates National Day of Awareness Not to Text and Drive

BOCA RATON, FL (April 3, 2012) – Florida Atlantic University’s Football Stadium will be the site for the 2012 National Day of Awareness to Text Responsibly and the “Rock to Live” Music Festival on Saturday, April 28, beginning at 5 p.m. at 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.

Grammy Award-winners Chris Brown and One Republic, along with Canadian rockers Surface Rising and country music’s rising star BadHorse and Jessica Dawn will highlight the line-up of performances at this powerful student-driven event.

The event will mark the first concert held in FAU’s new on-campus stadium and is sponsored by Spanish River High School, PhoneGuard, Global Maximus Productions, and Channel One News.

The National Day of Awareness to Text Responsibly & “Rock to Live” Music Festival is a grassroots, high school student-led effort to save lives through awareness of the dangers of texting and driving. More than 8,000 schools will participate throughout the nation and millions of people will join in one voice to stop the loss of lives caused by texting and driving.

An “Awareness Market Place,” which begins at 2 p.m. outside the stadium, will feature a test track and simulator where individuals can experience the distractions and impairments of texting while driving. The leading solution to curbing the rising problem of texting and driving lies in the innovative product that PhoneGuard will offer for free at the event and to its viewers. Boca Raton-based PhoneGuard partnered with two-time Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Justin Bieber to develop a smart phone application which disables a phone’s texting function whenever it detects the driver moving more than 10 miles per hour.

Event-goers also will have the opportunity to partake in the Gourmet Food Truck Expo, which will feature well-known South Florida Gourmet Food Trucks. Live entertainment by Super Bowl entertainers, BadHorse, and others will entertain outside the stadium while a star-studded Music Festival produced by Global Maximus Productions will highlight the day’s events. The in-stadium performances will stream live via Pay-Per-View throughout the world.

Spanish River High School sophomore Ross Brenner, the national event’s originator, has been working with PhoneGuard and various companies, groups, communities, sports figures, politicians, musicians and entertainers to champion the cause. They have made the “Rock to Live” Musical Festival held at FAU, ground zero for the nation-wide effort. Students, parents and everyone involved will be asked to visit www.takethepledge.tv to join those who have already made the pledge to be a part of the this cause.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday, April 5 at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster outlets, and begin at $40, and parking will cost $5 per car. The PPV e-web streaming “ticket” will become available via Ticketmaster but only online, as participants will need to print a validation code and ticket along with directions on how to redeem the concert’s webstream. Webstream tickets will go on sale Tuesday, April 10 at 10 a.m.
