Good find. So this M. Rouifed looks like an InP laser specialist (FP, DFB are laser types and gain chip and SOA can be for laser output control) working on NRE for worldwide telecom companies.

When reading up on these terms I ran into this paper about an SOA by John Bowers of UCSB. Notice in this 2016 paper they are adding the SOA to a structure that is the "Juniper type" where an "InP mesa" sits on the silicon waveguide (Figure 1).
