I googled this:

We are talking approx. about 4 W per LR Transciever (QSFP-100G-LRL4).

This equates to 35 kWh per year, if my calculation is correct.

These pieces cost several hundred dollars:

Datacenters have cheap power supply contracts. I do not think it pays itself.

But the next question is: How much Transcievers do you need? It surely sums up to a nice amount...
