A couple of very quick observations. How do they couple the laser? Is this an athermal laser if so then I think POET would be interested in using it? The pros and cons of the microring are well known. The problem is the operating temperature range is so very narrow and the temperature to tune it at has to be identified and controlled very closely to avoid drifting. This really does trump size especially in a high temperature environment..

I would think that if the laser is as good as they suggest and can operate at high temp then POET would be interested. But remember that the reason for a remote laser is to preserve the lifetime of the laser and to allow the lasers to be replaced when they fail without replacement of the entire package. Some are apparently trying to do this with complete redundancy of the laser within the package.

POET's strength is it takes the best of the best devices as they evolve and connects them in a highly efficient low cost way with thermal management optimised within the design.

 

It should be noted that self-assembled quantum dot for establishing  wavelength has been around for a long time.
