While it's easy to dismiss, working fulltime for a smallcap while you could be senior VPs of megacaps with compensation package 10x what POET can offer should be considered heavy investment. At their age, people look for golden parachutes, not continue to push Moores' Law or whatever. Not to mention POET's compensation consists mainly of options, meaning if POET doesn't make it, they would've wasted their efforts for nothing.

Lots of people here complain about how they could've made a lot of money investing elsewhere, well same goes for guys like Suresh. He sure could've made a lot more working elsewhere. The point is this: we are in the same boat, heavily invested whether it is time or money or both. If they're not heavily invested, they could've jumped boat elsewhere.
