I'd be cautious of these 'friend of a friend' rumours. There was a lot of this around in 2015/6 with various wild rumours floating around about companies x, y and z. None of these came true. 

POET has clearly stated that this isn't a path they are pursuing. I'd personally listen to that rather a than friend of a friend rumour.
