What I described was a case of almost total loss (not uncommon with RVX) which doesn't give you a lot of cash to put elsewhere to gain.

Yes, but I'd say that's the "Anchoring Bias" at work.  The market doesn't give a hoot what your buy-in price was or how big your loss is.  If it's not a lot of cash to put elsewhere, it's also not a lot of cash if left in RVX.

It might be deemed that an investment at this extreme low price might be a very good investment.

Nothing wrong with that if that's your view of it.  All I'm suggesting is to take an objective look at the investment today, and not overly focus on one's buy price.
