Excerpt from the Gold Summary - Jan. 3rd, 2013

"Guinea is not the friendliest country in West Africa. Semafo Inc. (SMF: $2.99) operated its Kineiro gold mine there until late 2011, when a group of angry unemployed locals attacked the homes of Semafo's foreign mine workers. They quickly fled to neighbouring Mali never to return. The locals, who claimed they were after employment, also burned most of the mine site and its equipment. Despite several meetings with the government, Semafo has yet to restart Kineiro, where the violence resulted in 270 locals losing their jobs. The mine is now up for sale."
