Message: Fiber is the future it's for sure

In a world of rapid updates, new models and changing protocols, optical fiber is one of the most stable and versatile technologies. There are very few things that can promise a return on investment for 50+ years and scale to meet future demand while leaving the original installation intact.

However, prolonged investment cutbacks in installation of new fiber optic networks are seen as unlikely, and network operators are expected to resume investments in scheduled network deployments. Although seemingly paradoxical, the most spontaneous need to curtail costs in an unfavourable business environment is also overridden with a simultaneous need to develop a platform for future growth. As the economy continues to rebound, there is expected to be renewed growth in telecommunications demand as wireless and fiber networks replace copper wires as the primary means of transmission. And with recently concluded 3G auctions, orders for telecom components and cables are expected to see a spike in terms of additional telecom cabling requirements.
Advancements in fiber optics technologies and designing of unique application focused products such as high capacity conductors, optical ground wire cables, and optical fiber products that are intended for FTTX (fiber-to-the-curb or home or premise) applications will help drive growth.

The European Investment Bank has agreed to provide a EUR 8 million loan to the Seychelles Cable Systems Company (SCS) for the installation and operation of the first submarine fibre optic cable for international connections to the Seychelles. This will fund a 1,930km cable from the main island of Mahé to the existing Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System in Tanzania and is expected to be operational by the second half of 2012.

The fibre optic link will dramatically improve both telecommunications and internet access in the Seychelles, with international transmission capacity estimated at being 7 times cheaper than current prices. Direct cable-based internet links will enable improved healthcare and education links, enhance job opportunities and are expected to slow down the emigration of skilled islanders.

“The Seychelles to East Africa Submarine Cable will bridge the digital divide and enable much cheaper communications than current satellite links. This project demonstrates the European Investment Bank’s commitment to supporting internet access essential for companies and communities in the 21st century.” said Plutarchos Sakellaris, European Investment Bank Vice-President responsible for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific lending operations.

12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).

China Telecom plans to cover every city in China with the fiber broadband service in three years and convert all copper lines to fiber, China Daily reported. Under the Five-Year Plan, the Chinese government will focus on developing the telecommunications infrastructure, with total investments reaching 2 trillion yuan. Broadband development would account for 80 percent.

“Only 23 percent of Chinese families have Internet access now, so China still has huge potential in this industry,” said China Telecom chairman Wang Xiaochu.

Valdor might also be the future in fiber technology and I need some news soon.
