Avalon Participated in Trade and Investment Mission to Japan, Korea and China

Last week, Avalon Advanced Materials’ President & CEO, Don Bubar, participated in a multi-stakeholder trade and investment mission to Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, South Korea. The tour was organized by Natural Resources Canada and Global Affairs Canada, with additional support from the participating provinces and territories including Ontario’s Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines. Avalon was one of six companies attending focused on critical mineral development in Canada. The mission continued to Beijing, China where Avalon was represented by Beijing-based consultant Song Zhiyong.

This trade mission was built on the vision of the Canadian Minerals and Metals Plan to expand trade and investment-related efforts in key Asian markets, particularly for critical minerals needed in new clean technology. For Avalon, it was also an opportunity to renew acquaintances with a number of groups Avalon had actively engaged with in Japan and Korea during the 2010-14 rare earths boom period.

Interest in securing new Canadian sources of critical minerals remains high amongst Japanese and Korean end-users. This includes tin, tantalum and cesium as well as lithium and rare earths. Immediately following Mr. Zhiyong’s presentation in Beijing, he received several new expressions of interest from Chinese companies looking for new critical minerals supply sources. Follow-up on the new leads generated during the trade mission is in progress.
