inflight internet service

“Our new eVU systems will feature a wireless interface and support web browsing, text messaging, on-board product sales, and streamed video and content updates. The new systems will have greater processing power to support High Definition video, and offer more design options and enhanced graphical user interface (GUI) choices while maintaining industry leading battery life.”

I wonder if broadband access via the eVU is in the design picture. Did anyone at the meeting get any feedback on that front?

Gogo passes 1m customer mark

November 19, 2009

Aircell has announced that its Gogo inflight internet service had its one millionth user during October 2009.

The service became available in 2008 but at the current rate of expansion and with users fast approaching 100,000 per week, the two millionth user mark will arrive considerably quicker. Its occurrence is expected in January 2010.

"While public debates continue regarding whether passengers will pay for the service, the hundreds of thousands of paid Gogo sessions every month have answered that question," said Ron LeMay, Aircell president and CEO.

Aircell says the rapid expansion of Gogo is due to the quality and speed of the service and the customer experience it delivers. In a recent survey conducted by Lucidity Research, more than 90% of respondents stated that they were fully satisfied with their Gogo experience.

"Having recently found in our own studies that a large number of airline passengers would rather have internet than meals in flight, it's not surprising to see the take-up rates Gogo has experienced," said Kelly Davis-Felner, marketing director of the Wi-Fi Alliance. "Travellers want to use Wi-Fi in flight so they can stay connected with their offices, colleagues, friends and families on the ground. They see tremendous value in the service and are not only willing to pay for it, but are also likely to become repeat customers and champions of the service."
