I know Joe passed away but does anyone know the details surrounding his death? I corresponded with Joe throughout my association with EDIG but only spoke to him twice.

I found him to be honest with me but, unfortunately, he was duped by his personal relationship with Fred. He defended Fred's actions at times when they seemed indefensable but near the end I detected doubt in his demeanor. He was slowly catching on  I can only imagine how this must have worn on him. 

The bottom line is I think Joe was totally honest in his defense but miscalculated like we all did..
