Thanks for that observation. I'd like to know more about that as the impression I have is that many of these checks are being cashed by surviving relatives who never bothered to report their kin as having died. This comes about because there is no standard for reportings of death by public health officials, undertakers, attending physicians, etc. This, or so I hear, results in SS continuing to issue checks until they get a report of death.

At the same time, I almost want to cheer those who pay SS tax with no expectation of future returns (though they may well be accepting current social benefits in other forms), and the current administration wants to give them benefits anyway.
