You can earn activity points by filling your profile with information about yourself (what city you live in, your favorite team, blogs etc.)
While the volume isn't heavy, it is running more consistently and appears to me to be building in an incremental way. I don't want to see volume spikes - just creates flipping incentives, I'd prefer a grinding increase over time.
