Portage Minerals Inc. and Freewest Resources Canada Inc. Announce the Results of the Spring 2011 Diamond Drill Program on the Golden Ridge Property

06/8/2011

Portage Minerals Inc. announced on behalf of its Joint Venture with Freewest Resources Canada Inc., the results of the spring 2011 diamond drill program on the Golden Ridge Property. Final assay results from the recent 8 hole drill program continue to return significant mineralization including: Hole GR-11-62: 0.79 g/t gold over 80.19 m including 1.00 g/t gold over 36.75 &1.14 g/t gold over 11.40 m. Hole GR-11-64: 1.48 g/t gold over 11.20 m, &2.02 g/t over 12.37 m. Hole GR-11-65: 1.05 g/t gold over 9.0 m o Hole GR-11-68: 0.90 g/t gold over 6.2 m, 0.52 g/t over 16.00 m The program has successfully extended the mineralized alteration system's width to 400 metres & length to 900 metres. Gold system remains open in all directions for further expansion Current drill results have not been incorporated into the Apr. 26, 2011 Inferred Mineral Resource of 11,640,000 tonnes at a grade of 0.96 g/t gold yielding 359,300 ounces of gold The Joint Venture is evaluating the Project's large tonnage, near surface potential; The 8 kilometre x 3 kilometre property covers a highly prospective gold target which remains virtually unexplored outside the resource area. Ongoing Joint Venture exploration and development costs are being shared on a 60:40% basis, with a non-contributing party being subject to pro rata dilution. Recent Drilling Results: The 8-hole diamond drill program was designed to evaluate the southwestern extension of the mineralized system which hosts an inferred mineral resource of 11,640,000 tonnes at a grade of 0.96 g/t gold yielding 359,300 ounces of gold. The program has successfully extended the mineralized alteration system's width to 400 metres and length to 900 metres. Highlights from the assay results (core widths) from the recent program include: //st o Hole GR-11-62: 0.79 g/t gold over 80.19 m including 1.00 g/t gold over 36.75 &1.14 g/t gold over 11.40 m o Hole GR-11-64: 1.48 g/t gold over 11.20 m, 2.44 g/t over 4.00 m &2.02 g/t over 12.37 m o Hole GR-11-65: 1.05 g/t gold over 9.0 m o Hole GR-11-66: 1.51 g/t gold over 4.0 m o Hole GR-11-68: 0.90 g/t gold over 6.2 m, 0.52 g/t over 16.00 m including 1.30 g/t over 4.0 m. Previously announced near surface intersections (core widths; as below) indicate the potential future development of the Project through low cost surface mining methods (Portage Press Release dated December 16, 2010): //st o 0.82 g/t gold over 74 m including 3.39 over 10.0m (GR-10-37) o 0.83 g/t gold over 48.0m including 1.12 g/t gold over 20.0 (GR-10-58) o 2.76 g/t gold over 25.0m including 4.12 g/t over 15.0m (GR-10-55) o 1.27 g/t gold over 28.7m (GR-10-31) o 1.21 g/t gold over 25.0m (GR-10-22) o 1.08 g/t gold over 47.2m (GR-04-014) o 1.49 g/t gold over 30.45m (GR-04-015) o 1.47 g/t gold over 48.9m (GR-04-011) o 1.73 g/t gold over 18.0 m including 2.06 g/t gold over 14.0 m (GR-10-57). Overall, the mineralization occurs in a sericite-carbonate +/- albite altered dacitic volcanic complex with zones of quartz veins, quartz stockwork and quartz breccias. Pyrite, arsenopyrite and minor to trace stibnite are associated with the mineralization.
