Henry has been saying for two years that he wants more copper and nickel and there was some progress on that goal in 2021 with a $500 million bid for Canadian nickel explorer Noront Resources.

But Noront will not fill the growth gap left by the divestments.

So don’t be surprised if Henry has another firework or two up his sleeve in the years ahead.

“First and foremost, let’s make sure that we don’t miss a beat in terms of our underlying business,” Henry says of his 2022 ambitions. “But at the same time, off the back of the even better platform that we’re creating, let’s look at how we can go about advancing things further and unlocking more opportunities for future growth in future-facing products.”
