The top five conclusions from my Tech Talk presentation at OFC 2024 on thin-film lithium niobate (please see: https://lnkd.in/epPvXw8Y), which had a heavy emphasis on intelligence from large users, are the following:

1) the material is expected to be an enabler at higher data rates, starting with possibly getting a piece of the 1.6T business, (including 1600ZR), with then very significant potential at 3.2T;

2) the biggest opportunity is anticipated to be for intra-data center applications, assuming that the marketplace moves to 400G per lane;

3) suppliers do not currently tend to be forthcoming with customers on details regarding scalability and manufacturing;

4) vendors appear to still be grappling with validation of sustainable, stable operation over an extended period; and

5) there seems to be a strong belief in the marketplace that Ciena has used TF-LiNbO3 to achieve 1.6T.
