AGORACOM NEWS FLASH

Dear Agoracom Family,

I want to thank all of you for your patience with us over the past 48 hours and apologize for what was admittedly a botched launch of our new site.

As you can see, we have reverted back to the previous version of the site while we address multiple forum functionality flaws that inexplicably made their way into the launch.

To this end:

1.We have identified 8 fundamental but easily fixable flaws that will be corrected in the coming week, so that you can continue to use the forums exactly as you've been accustomed to.

2.Additionally we will also be implementing a couple of design improvements to "tighten up" the look and feel of the forums.

Have a great Sunday, especially those of you like me that are celebrating Orthodox Easter ... As well as those of you who are also like me and mourning another Maple Leafs Game 7 exit ... Ugggh!

Sincerely,

George et al

Message: Argentina-3rd Reactor at full power, major financial support from China
  • After its gradual start-up, Argentina's 3rd reactor reached full power on February 17, 2015. 10% of the country's electricity is now derived from nuclear.
  • During a recent state visit to Beijing, the Argentine delegation ratified China's contract to build Argentina's 4th reactor (a Canadian CANDU design) and the two nations agreed to collaborate on a 5th reactor. Both plants are to be financed by Chinese banks for an estimated total of >$12 billion. These latest deals highlight the strong financial support that Argentina is receiving from China, which has also included an $11 billion currency swap and funding to build two hydroelectric dams.

Argentina's need for local uranium to reduce its 100% reliance on imported fuel for its expanding nuclear electricity initiatives presents a ready domestic market for U3O8 Corp's Laguna Salada Deposit, which is one of the most advanced uranium projects in the region.

China deepens strategic partnership on clean energy projects in Argentina:

  • Nuclear energy - In early February, the contract to build Argentina's 4th reactor was ratified, while the two nations signed an agreement to cooperate on a 5th plant. China has agreed to fund construction of the plants and guarantee the supply of nuclear fuel for the entire life of the reactors.
  • Hydropower - China and Argentina are also building two hydroelectric dams in Santa Cruz Province. China has agreed to provide related financing of $4.7 billion.

Chinese investment in Argentina strengthening bilateral trade - China has become Argentina's biggest trade partner after Brazil, with $17.5 billion of commerce in 2013. Since October 2014, the South American country has received $3 billion of an $11 billion currency swap agreement with China to bolster Argentina's foreign reserves, to service debt and to manage its trade deficit.

Argentina & USA cooperating in nuclear technology - Coqui RadioPharmaceuticals Corp. recently chose Argentina's INVAP to design the first medical isotope facility to be built in the USA. The facility will be designed to produce molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) isotopes, which are used to detect a wide range of diseases and applied in ~80% of nuclear medicine procedures worldwide. In 2012, USA Congress passed legislation making it a national priority to produce Mo-99. At present, only Argentina, Australia, Canada, France and South Africa have the capacity to produce medical isotopes.
