Hi all,
As an ASIC design enginneer I am quite aware of the limitations of current CMOS technology and was really excited by optical computing few years back... which lead me to invest in POET at that time thinking they would develop optical components on CMOS process ... when I mean components, I mean logic gates , registers that allows fast logic processing... not just optical interfaces between chips .. Solving the bottleneck of data transport for cheaper cost is great but not what I am interrested in.
Other approaches have emerged such as optalysys (can check their website & youtube videos), although it is not integrated on silicon solution, but making computing with light one step closer to reality, and I know big companies are researching optical CPUS.
As I wonder is there any development planned at POET to create logical gates/flops/processing units using light on silicon ?
Such gates shoud be developted as libraries for EDA to place and use on silicon like they do for standard CMOS logic cells, or is POET only focussing on VSEL / chip interconnect ?
Is there anyone familiar with POET platform that can say if this opto-electronoics process that POET is developing could support optical computing in the future ?
Thank you,
Jimmy.
