TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (11,512.26 up 104.58 points):

Eastern Platinum Ltd. (TSX:ELR). Miner. Up seven cents, or 8.33 per cent, to 91 cents on 13,180,614 shares. The metals and mining subgroup led advancers on the Toronto Stock Exchange, up 4.10 per cent.

Uranium One Inc. (TSX:UUU). Miner. Up 19 cents, or 5.64 per cent, to $3.56 on 12,851,539 shares as the Vancouver miner received approval from the Kazakhstan Energy Ministry to buy 50 per cent of the Karatau Uranium Mine.

Petaquilla Minerals Ltd. (TSX:PTQ). Miner. Down five cents, or 18.87 per cent, to 21.5 cents on 7,746,015 shares. The company's shares traded heavily for a second day in a row after its board appointed Joao Manuel as president and chief executive officer last week. The company's executive chairman, chief executive and most of its board resigned earlier in the month.

Yamana Gold (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 33 cents, or 2.46 per cent, to $13.72 on 7,373,371 shares. The gold subgroup advanced 2.33 per cent on the TSX after bullion closed at another record high on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up US$22.50 at US$1,139.20 an ounce.

Mega Brands Inc. (TSX:MB). Toy maker. Up 13 cents, or 9.35 per cent, to $1.52 on 6,747,573 shares. The shares have been active since Mega Brands announced last week that it has recorded its first-quarterly earnings since 2007. The profits reversed year-ago loss despite a nearly 30 per cent drop in revenue.

Crystallex International Corp. (TSX:KRY). Up 19 cents, or 71.70 per cent, to 45.5 cents, on 5,857,741 shares. The Toronto company said it was "not aware of any material undisclosed corporate developments which would account for the recent increase in its stock price and trading volume" as company shares traded at highs not seen since October 2008.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,377.94 up 18.04 points):

Canplats Resources Corp. (TSXV:CPQ). Miner. Up 96 cents, or 37.65 per cent, to $3.51 on 18,602,035 shares. Major gold miner Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G) is acquiring the junior miner in a deal pegged at $238 million. Goldcorp's shares were up 50 cents, or 1.08 per cent, to $46.75 on 4,435,982 shares.

Gold Wheaton Gold Corp. (TSXV:GLW). Miner. Up a penny, or 3.28 per cent, to 31.5 cents on 9,419,116 shares.
