"The spokesman said that the Fund is "ready to act" given the "difficult" economic situation in Venezuela, "once clarified" the issue of recognition.

The managing director, Christine Lagarde, anticipated at the beginning of March that the IMF will assist Venezuela "as soon as the legitimate authorities of that country" request help, but did not mention any name."
