Message: Followup commentary on drill program

Claude Lemasson's Eastmain Resources Inc. (ER), up 11 cents to 94 cents on 1.12 million shares, has begun drilling at Eleonore South, a joint venture gold project in the James Bay region of Quebec. (Eastmain and Goldcorp Inc. (G: $22.06) each hold 36.7-per-cent interests; Azimut Exploration Inc. (AZM: $0.55) holds the remaining 26.6 per cent.) The 10-hole, 2,500-metre program, which is the first phase of a two-phase, 5,000-metre program, is targeting areas along a three-kilometre-long corridor that the partners consider highly prospective.

The key targets include the Moni prospect, where recent grab sampling returned assays ranging from 11.6 to 142.0 grams of gold per tonne. Four holes are planned at Moni and another four will target the possible direct strike extension of the Cheechoo discovery, five kilometres to the east. (The two other holes will test other targets of interest to the geologists and geophysicists.) Much of the Eleonore South promotion is based on the success at Cheechoo, where Sirios Resources Inc. (SOI: $0.97) hit high-grade gold a few months ago, including a 4.1-metre interval that assayed 37.2 grams per tonne.
