I think large blocks like what we are seeing recently has a psychological effect on the sellers, sellers seeing that there is a demand for the stock in large quantities will hold out for the higher price than the prevailing bid. If the bids were in small quantities, say 30,000 and diminishing, then the sellers would be more willing to let go of their shares for the highest bid. So, in a way Lux is right, large block bids have a locking effect on the s/p.
