The discussion does seem to be getting a wee bit off course, so let's add to the straying. The concept of credits to EV buyers is similar to any credit from the Feds. Take solar installations for instance. The idea is to increase R&D and expand the solar industry, and maybe reduce the size of the extraction industry. However, if one stands against credits for EV's in particular, where would one stand regarding the supports and subsidies that the Feds give to oil, gas and coaL?  Or any other Federal subsidy?  The Pentagon? Eternal war?  Mining lithium is bound to take a toll on the environment like any other effort that defaces Mother Earth. Like any decision, major or minor, there are pluses and minuses. Tax credts have always been used to increase an installed base, increase jobs, and to satisfy the loudest lobbyists. Subsidies, including tax breaks, have usually been used to aid and comfort the already wealthy.

After this rant, I will take my comments to the Off Topic forum.
