Message: US Navy places $50M order with FLIR

There's nothing to fear here.

FLIR is a device manufacturer, where POET is not. POET is the process developer (they make the LEGO pieces) and FLIR one day might make a camera with POET inside (i.e., build something with the LEGO).

When BAE comes out with the IR sensor or the DEW, whey will take credit for it's development, as will we. It's a unique situation where POET works closely with BAE to develop an actual product which BAE can sell and POET (the company) can use to validate POET as a process which can be mass produced. After this R&D agreement is terminated, it's possible that POET will never develop a product again. They'll leave that to the licensees. POET may continue to develop more devices for POET, like say that solar invention that Taylor has been too busy to develop and patent. But if all goes well, they will more likely be working with one or more of the PDA partners the SSC is arranging as we speak.

BAE and FLIR could both one day design devices with POET IP at the core. Depending on how the chips fall (no pun intended), their competitors may do the same.

Let's hope an exclusivity agreement is expensive.
