Six patents announced at once, with no foreknowledge amongst investors that this would happen.

As far as we knew the whole team was completely focused on composing the TDK and approaching the 100nm node.

It's interesting that the two prior patents we not noted in another NR, nor in this one, even though the topic of patents was wide open. I have a feeling that it was not only done for impact (that is, being able to file 6 patents about the hot topic of quantum computing), but also for stealth. In one stroke POET was able to secure (assuming the applications are going to succeed) many of the technologies they believe are integral to quantum computing in POET. I can see why they wouldn't want to file these one at a time, exposing them to the risk of getting scooped by another entity.

It's also fair to say that if POET still wants to sell the company they have added great value in filing these applications. A buyer now knows that they have a technology that will go beyond Si CMOS - both in the optoelectronic applications, and the areas requiring massive parallel computing.

This may not have had the desired (read: immediate) impact on the SP, but those who are interested in POET most definitely became even more interested!
