I posted this about a year and a half ago I believe. It's a short summary of a 350+ page document outlining the importance of optical and photonic technologies to the US economy. It also highlights the "Grand Challenge" integrate electonics and optics:

"Grand Challenge: develop a seamless integration of photonics and electronics components, as a main-stream platform for low-cost fabrication and packaging of systems on a chip."

This is of course only part of what POET can do (the PET subset and possibly quantum computing in the future), making it ideal for POET's participation in the development of the institute. The above document is the precursor to the grant offering (see the article below)
