Message: About SilTerra

SilTerra is also one of the darlings of the Malaysian government!

One of the most significant parts of the NR is this "SilTerra has agreed to assist financially with the purchase of specialized semiconductor fabrication and testing equipment, as well as to share certain costs associated with facilities enhancements and installation of equipment for manufacturing the Optical Interposer".

You may recall that almost a year ago we talked about the fact that tools (fab and plant) necessary to develop some PoET tech had not been invented as yet. It would seem that the Malaysian government, through SilTerra as made the quantum leap and descision to puchase/develop the plant necessary to make the next step forward and then make it available to PoET. As FJ has pointed out, this is the best way to fence in and control  cutting edge IP.

Also significant is this "to address the increasing need for cost-effective solutions for Data Center Interconnects through the innovative use of silicon in photonics." As we also discussed, the big houses are NOT going to abandon silicon just yet and develop other strata (ie GaAS) so PoET has very intelligently decided to take " the message ( dielectric interposer) to the mountain (silicon photonics)"

While this is extremely good news, in that we now have someone to help with the heavy lifting, it is also good to keep in mind that it will take time to refurbish the plant, get the equipment made, installed, running and calibrated, get the interposer platform production ready and begin manufacturing in volume.

Now that the "wet blanket" paragraph is in, I would say the future looks very bright for sharholders and that a further significant de-risking has occured.

IMO, of course
