Indium phosphide (InP) is one of the better-known waveguide platforms deployed in integrated photonics. Its key asset is its ability to generate light. This makes InP chips ideal as gain sections or amplifiers. However, the optical losses within InP make it less ideal for passive waveguides.

I wonder if POET is already the solution to the optical losses?
