Calix partnering with Infosys on AXOS platform module expansion

Calix (NYSE: CALX) said it will partner with Infosys (NYSE: INFY) on an investment to create new services and value-added offerings on Calix's AXOS software-defined access (SDA) platform. The strategic multi-year partnership with Infosys will accelerate communications service provider (CSP) adoption of AXOS, the two companies expect.

For a decade Calix has been working toward the goal of enabling CSPs to deploy and operate unified access networks, which the company asserts it fulfills with the AXOS SDA platform (see "Calix AXOS operating system aims for SDN-enabled access networks"). The modular, standards-based architecture of the AXOS platform also enables other entities to develop and deliver enhanced capabilities to CSPs, says Calix. Along these lines, Infosys, a technology services and consulting provider with clients in 45 countries, will develop and provide new software modules for the AXOS platform through the new partnership.

The resultant modules will enable service providers to advance deployments of next generation access networks, lower their operating cost, improve network intelligence, and enable rapid deployment of new services to subscribers, the companies anticipate. Calix says this will be accomplished by decreasing time-to-market for new AXOS capabilities and broadening AXOS offerings. Verizon is among the service providers that have already deployed AXOS (see "Verizon to deploy Calix AXOS E9-2 this quarter as part of NG-PON2 rollout").

"Over 200 Calix customers have already deployed AXOS - from relatively small regional service providers to Verizon, one of the world's largest and most innovative service providers," said Michel Langlois, Calix senior vice president, products and strategy. "Infosys is one of the largest and most capable software development firms in the world. By embracing the AXOS platform, they are dramatically increasing the resources that are developing new capabilities on the platform. This agreement represents a significant enhancement to the ecosystem enabling our customers to achieve their transformation objectives."
