Back in the day the nightly news broadcast had a 5 or 10 minute segment for sports news....and typically they'd go to a commercial break before the scores were announced.  The anchor might say something like: 

"When we get back from break, the Blue Jays had fans on the edge of their seats for an exciting finish in the 9th inning, stay tuned for the results with Bob".

Then the commercials would come on and you'd be wondering "did they win or lose"?  I know I'd be thinking "it sounds good...but I don't know, maybe they came up just short, or maybe they romped to a big win".  It used to annoy me....now I'm just excited and anxious.
