April 30, 2005 – US LOW-COST operator Independence Air is introducing APS/Wencor’s digEplayer handheld IFE system on its current flights between Washington Dulles and Las Vegas and San Diego, and on the new services to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Jose that it will introduce tomorrow.
The carrier is offering the units for $10 per flight, including headphones. Content, to be refreshed every 60 days, comprises 10 or more full-length films, 10-15 episodes of TV comedies and other programmes, a selection of music videos, a hundred songs from a variety of genres, and the airline’s own “FLYi Guy” comedy shorts.
”We`ve been testing digEplayer on our West Coast flights this month,” says airline marketing SVP Eric Nordling. “Based on the reactions from those who’ve experienced it so far, we expect it to be a hit. Our customers love the fact that they have total control over exactly what they watch. And with this much content available you can fly several times a month and still never work your way through the entire menu.”
