Tuiwa Village is called “the entrance to heaven”. It is close to the border of Bhutan and Tibet, at the foot of the Mengdagangri Snow Mountain, backed by the snow-capped Himalayan foothills, and by the clear Puma Yumco. It is a Tibetan village like the Garden of Eden. With an altitude of 5,070 meters, this mystery Tibetan village is located at the foot of the Mengdagangri Snow Mountain, more than 300 kilometers southwest of Lhasa. It is the highest administrative village in the world. "Tuiwa" in Tibetan means "connection" in English.

A Paradise on the Roof of the World

Tuiwa Village is located more than 300 kilometers southwest of Lhasa, and the way to get there passes by Yanghu Lake. Most people turn back to Lhasa once having seen Yamdrok, but they don't know that they will reach the entrance of heaven – Tuiwa Village after 4 more hours of driving.

The average altitude here is 5,070 meters, which is almost the limit of human daily life. It is said that no more than 100 tourists have been there. If you have been to the conventional sopts such as Namtso, Nyingchi, and Potala Palace, you may as well go to the entrance of heaven. There are the ever-changing Pumo Yumco, the snow-capped Himalayas, the original ecological villages and temples, and herds of cattle and sheep.

Original State of Existence

It was thought that this village at an altitude of 5070 meters should be primitive and dilapidated, but its Tibetan stone houses are simple and neat, and they are no different from those seen at the foot of the mountain. The average life expectancy of the villagers here is only in the 40s. The government once wanted to pay them to move down the mountain, but they refused to move. The village of more than 100 people has maintained a near-primitive state of existence and still maintains the commune system. People, regardless of their position or seniority, have to take turns to herd cattle and collect cow dung. The recovered cow dung needs to be distributed uniformly. There are even candies that tourists take in the past, and the villagers will evenly distribute them to the children.
