Message: AGM report...by Parser99

Parser99 on SH attended the AGM yesterday.

Some of his quick comments:

* Overall, it was a very well run and informative meeting. Business part was
over quickly, and Skippen's presentation was comprehensive, very polished and
well done/informative. You should see the AGM presentation go up on the site
soon:
http://www.wi-lan.com/investors/presentations-and-events/default.aspx

[It builds upon an earlier March 2012 presentation that was posted there
earlier.]

* Lots of people in attendance - the largest meeting I've seen in the 3 Ottawa
based AGMs I've been to (so not like the Calgary days, but still almost all
seats were filled). Tyler mentioned they received a number of aggressive emails
previously about 'raising hell' at the AGM, so Mr. Garda security guard was in
place there too!

But Q&A was totally civil...

* Open Q&A: some technical and litigation type questions and a few on the share
price performance. On the latter question, Skippen's response is basically that
he's focused on the business and that over time the market will reflect that in
the sp. He does see that we're undervalued, but he's basically not too concerned
about it right now.

* One of the reasons for attending the AGM is the pre- and post meeting
discussions. Management were *very accessible* and another yahoo group member &
I were able to talk to Wi-Lan execs for over an hour (incl some time with CEO
Skippen). Totally fascinating insights and clarifications to some of the
questions we've been unable to answer (for example, it's one thing to read the
public litigation record, but another to have, say, Paul Lerner, Senior Legal
Counsel and Gladios lead explain or summarize certain things for you in person).
Very impressed with the team they've got together.

* On LG - no surprise, WIN is going to appeal - and seems that this is already
in motion. Key message is that the V-Chip patent re-exam resulted in 30 new
claims being accepted, with one of those new claims *covering what LG actually
claimed to be doing* to get around VChip.

* Nokia -- we couldn't get any details on this other than it's progressing and
they're still in discussions. There was absolutely no hint that this might go to
litigation (and no suggestion that it wouldn't either). It's moving, but I take
it that NOK's financial stresses make this more drawn out.

* 13/45 of the big institutions are US-based. There are 2 new US analysts
covering WIN since the Nasdaq launch last year, and others looking at it.

* Gladios -- again, nothing too new that we didn't hear at the previous CC, but
they have a number of offers on the table that they are reviewing (takes time to
evaluate!). They are keen on finding a large strategic partner (and sounds like
they might be close).

* Apple is completely unlicenced - yep, they had their opportunity last year to
sign on, and now with millions of new devices on the market, their liability
increases. Apple is a formidable foe, and are expected to push negotiations
right to trial.

* Wi-Lan didn't drop any new "teasers" IMHO. As I said, I did leave the meeting
feeling really positive going forward, but just don't know what to make of that.
I thought they might put something out there about "X deal" or "lawsuit Y" in
the works, but nothing beyond what we already know from previous CC, etc (i.e.
current discussions, litigation, etc.).
